The BCPS Mission
Broadclyst Community Primary School which is part of The Cornerstone Academy Trust (MAT) creates and promotes a challenging learning environment that inspires children to achieve high standards and become life-long learners. The school has high expectations, builds children’s confidence, and ensures success for all. We seek to foster creative thinkers, inquisitive questioners, avid problem solvers with flexible skills and successful communicators. Children learn to collaborate effectively at all levels, including working with our international partners, and are able to adapt to the needs of a diverse and fast-changing society.
An outstanding education, packed with opportunity
Broadclyst Community Primary School (BCPS), rated Outstanding by Ofsted, was founded in 1810 to serve the children of the local community. Still a community school, it was one of the first five primary schools in the country to become an academy in September 2010 and has developed a national and international reputation for its innovative use of IT and digital media. It offers its 450 pupils 1:1 access to computers and a range of technologies to enable 21st century learning.
A local school: a global education
The annual Global Enterprise Challenge was developed by BCPS in 2014, when it won a ‘pitch’ competition run by Microsoft within its Showcase School community across the world. The Challenge incorporates a wide range of business skills while encompassing many different elements of the curriculum, putting the children’s learning into a real-life context and using Microsoft Office 365 technology to allow worldwide collaboration and creativity.
Technology as a tool for learning
The children will spend time in the art room, the recording studio and the TV studio. They’ll play and learn outdoors, at forest school and on the allotment as well as in sports teams. They will sing in a choir, play a musical instrument and learn to cook. Balance is very important in education, as in all areas of life.
However, the computer is a tool that is going to be a critical part of your child’s future. Harnessing the power of technology in the right way at the right time is really important. The school has a wide array of devices, for different purposes. Whether your child is using a computer to edit video, a waterproof device to collect data in forest school, or developing literacy, free thinking, creative and communication skills in the TV studio, the ethos of BCPS is to use the technology alongside excellent teaching to provide an outstanding education, packed with opportunity.
